Natural Phenomenon Cappadocia

Cappadocia belongs to UNESCO World Heritage site and is famous for rock formations known as "fairy chimneys". The character of the landscape was formed by volcanic eruptions millions of years ago and the erosion of thick volcanic ash. Over time weather and rivers helped to carve the solified soft rock called "Tuff" into rock formation seen today. People shaped the soft rock and created complex underground cities providing them with security against raids. Today visitors can enjoy Cappadocia from hot-air ballons, explore underground cities carved as 279 feet (85 m) deep or visit the first Byzantine churces.
